Though history and architecture buffs have been drawn to the historic Cyclorama Building for decades, last week Lumsden McCormick, who moved into the building in 2012, received an unusual request. The Firm was asked to open their doors to a bus carrying 22 who planned to arrive for a tour of the building in honor of Harvey and Nancy Schiller. Why the excitement? The couple celebrated their 65^th wedding anniversary Thursday, the 28^th of August. They were engaged in the Grosvenor Library’s Reading Room, housed at that time in the Cyclorama Building.

The couple was greeted with photos of the Cyclorama Building as it was in the 1940’s as well as a champagne toast and bouquet of gardenias, as carried by the bride in 1949. After photos and a tour the couple, with family and friends at their side- including three members of their bridal party, headed south to the site of Camp Lakeland (today Cradle Beach Camp), where the couple first met and their love story began. A celebratory dinner followed.

The Grosvenor Library was housed in the Cyclorama Building from 1942-1963. Built in 1888 the building’s original purpose was to showcase painted tapestries which hung two-stories tall and detailed historic scenes- originally of the Crucifixion, then the Battle of Gettysburg. Buffalo’s Cyclorama Building is one of three remaining cycloramas in the country.  The Cyclorama Building is owned and managed by Ciminelli Real Estate Corporation.
